Our Wedding Picture! Veda made her dress and my Medieval style kilt.
VEDA CREWE JOSEPH
Veda Crewe Joseph is an accomplished artist with an in depth background
in medieval and renaissance illumination. She has a BFA in illustration
from the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts) and
an MFA in painting and printmaking from Pratt Institute.
Before moving to Vermont, she worked for six years as the art handler for
the Robert Lehman Collection in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Veda is a Mistress of the Laurel for her illumination in the Society
for Creative Anachronism (a medieval and renaissance recreation organization)
where she has also pursued her love of costume construction and historical
research, embroidery, leather work and especially the bardic arts of singing
and storytelling.
Besides helping Stuart with Celtic Cultures, Veda has her own career
as an artist, calligrapher/illuminator, historical costumer, and custom
sewer. To find out more about her and her business,

STUART JOSEPH
Stuart Martin Joseph is a Celt-ophile from way back, though his especial
interest is Scotland and Ireland. His great love of Celtic traditions has
shown up in various ways, including wearing his kilt (made by Veda) whenever
possible and playing the concertina and singing traditional Celtic music,
mostly Scottish and Irish. A non-traditional student (meaning he was older!),
he received his degree in History (major) and Music (minor) from Adelphi
University in 1994, and has been around the historic re-enactment societies
for some time. Currently, he is involved in The
Society For Creative Anachronism (where he and Veda met). He is one
of the founders, and the first Seneschal (leader), of the local SCA group,
The Incipient Shire of Riverstone (formerly known as The Incipient Shire
Of Dun ni Slieve), a part of The
East Kingdom. In the Society, he is known as Laird Stuidhart Martainn
Mac Dhomhnaill, The Great Scot, Bardic Magician.
He is a also a member of Clan
Donald-USA and was a Clan Donald Vermont Convener.
In
addition to the aforementioned, he has a great love of wire-haired fox
terriers, especially his current and past canine family members, Bonnie
and Beau (Bonnie crossed the Rainbow Bridge on January 18, 2002), and
20th century popular culture, especially old movies, television and radio
shows. Over the years, Stuart has had a variety of careers much of which
has involved antiques, Celtic and historical work. Stuart was able to combine
his Celtic, music, and historical interests into the business called Celtic
Cultures, which he started while still a student at Adelphi. He is
a bonafide creative entrepreneur.
Stuart has become a professional magician. Not only does he perform
period magic dressed in appropriate Scotish garb, from medieval and Renaissance,
18th Century, Vuctorian, and modern, he does so using stories, folk tales,
history and music to make his show unique. To find out more about The Great
Scot, visit his residence

Veda and Stuart live in a 1900 Queen Anne style house in Bellows
Falls, VT that they are currently restoring (in their spare time!).
It is their home as well as the location for Celtic Cultures, The Great
Scot, and Veda's studio and sewing room which she uses for her business.
