Though often associated with the Scots, bagpipes are known all over the world, and were introduced to Scotland from Ireland, where the pipes also were used in battle. The Scots added the 3rd drone and were responsible for turning them into "An instrument of war.". The pipes were also popular in all of Europe during the Medieval and Renaissance periods.
